Korean lunch in Koreatown

Quick, portable, and eaten with your hands.

Lunch in Koreatown usually means one of two things: sitting down to a stew and banchan, which is excellent and takes an hour, or finding something you can carry. This page is about the second.

Why yubu chobap works as a weekday lunch

It is designed to be carried. Yubu chobap is eaten cool, not hot, so nothing about it degrades on the walk back — it is not a dish that has a five-minute window before it stops being good. It needs no sauce, no utensils and no table. And it is structurally sealed: rice inside a tofu pocket does not leak into a bag.

That combination is exactly why it is the standard Korean lunchbox food, and it transfers cleanly to a desk in Los Angeles. More on what yubu chobap is.

What to order

A topped yubu — bulgogi, salmon or spicy chicken — is the most substantial single thing on the menu and the closest to a complete lunch on its own. If you want something hot as well, add tteokbokki. The full menu is here.

Ordering ahead

Pickup and delivery both run through our ordering page. Ordering ahead is the difference between a lunch break and a lunch queue, and the food is as good collected as it is eaten at the counter — which is not true of most things.
